My name is Justin Cogswell, and I'm from Legend Printing and Design. We do vehicle graphics; we do multimedia printing on vinyl, on ban material. We came down to San Diego to do Tintingtool.com's wrap class and vehicle wrapping class. I've never wrapped a car. I came in here not never having touched a piece of vinyl in my life, stickers is all. We wrapped a complete car in three days. It was absolutely amazing. We went from not knowing anything to being confident and comfortable doing a full wrap on a car. I think the money that Legend put out for this training was absolutely worth it, we got an amazing amount of information out of it. And now we're absolutely wrapping boats, wrapping cars, wrapping anything we can get out hands on. It's been an absolutely wonderful experience. Adam Sumner is a wonderful instructor, he took his time with us, he showed us how things worked, and everything about vinyl, it was absolutely amazing. I would definitely come back and do another Tintingtool.com class again.

The newly-established Malaysia Window Film Association (MWFA) held a press conference today urging government ministries and agencies to review the soon-to-be-implemented MS2669 automotive window tint standard, which is set to come into force on January 1, 2018.

The organisation, comprised of window film dealers, distributors and manufacturers, said that the new ruling set by the Department of Standards Malaysia was developed without the input of industry players. It also wanted to defer the implementation of film testing and installation of QR code security labels, of which test lab QAV Technologies would be the solely responsible of.

Contention mostly centred around the fact that the MS2669 standard was developed together with the Auto Audio Accessories and Air-Condition Traders Association (AAA), which does not represent the majority of companies in the window film industry, MWFA stated. It added that MWFA members were not represented nor engaged in talks to provide insight and knowledge on the impact of the standard’s implementation.

One of the issues raised was in regards to bubbling of the film, which AAA stated is caused by the quality of the window tint tools . “It can be that the film itself has reached the end of its life cycle [warranty period],” said vice president Ng Jun Jie, who is also the managing director of Totalgard Manufacturing.

The association also found issue with the planned implementation of QR code labels, which in its current form is said to have the potential to compromise the quality of the film itself and tinting tools, being placed between the window and the film. It also stated that its members may not be able to absorb the cost of the labels (they are provided to the customer free of charge), said to cost RM20 per car.

When it comes to discussing about the benefits of auto window tinting, there are a few essential aspects that should be taken into consideration. When people think of automotive window tinting, they usually think about windows on fancy cars or limos. Most individuals stay away from this type of service because they tend to think the windows are too dark or they do not want to deal with various different laws that vary from state to state. But, tinted windows offer a driver a number of benefits, thereby making the ride a lot smoother and relaxing.

Nobody likes getting into a hot vehicle that has been baking in the hot sun for several hours, especially if your vehicle has a leather interior. When you enter a vehicle that has been parked outside in a very hot day, you know you will have to bear the uneasy feeling of heat that can burn your skin. In order to help reduce this discomfort, you can opt for this service. By getting your windows tinted, you can manage to avoid scorching summer heat even before you turn on the air conditioning, and you can have an enjoyable experience when you enter your car.

If you have to spend quite a lot of time in your vehicle, probably due to your job, then chances are that you may be risking the health of your skin. As you will be exposed to the sun, you may need to acquire some additional protection via automotive window tinting. Tinted windows can provide you with complete protection from fatal ultraviolet rays. Considering the fact that most films are able to stop UV rays, you can be rest assured that your skin is properly protected, thereby minimizing long-term damage to your skin. Moreover, your car’s interior will be protected. Otherwise, it may cause the leather’s color to fade away and give a low-quality appearance.

Your long commute may already be agonizing, since it is a routine that you may want to avoid. But, if you factor in the sun’s glare, it can become extremely annoying and discomforting. Although sunglasses are useful in such circumstances, but if you forget them, you will just have to suffer. Therefore, when you decide to invest in tinted windows, you can be guaranteed constant protection from sun’s glare. Not only will it ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable ride, but it will also facilitate a safer driving experience.

If you get involved in a bad accident that damages the glass of your vehicle, then your tinted windows can offer a great level of safety and protection. Due to the film on the glass, it will allow you to protect yourself against some of the glass that may hit you as a consequence of the accident. Rather than the dangerous glass damaging your skin or eyes, it is likely to stick to the film. Therefore, film on the glass can probably save your life during a deadly accident.

With that being said, when you have decided to get your automotive windows tinted, it is important to assign the task to professional companies or contractor. Bear in mind the fact that professional method of undertaking the tasks is different from the greenhorn techniques. The fact that amateurs often lack the experience and necessary training to do a proper job means that you may end up spending more on repairs after they perform the task than the amount you spent on hiring them. Moreover, amateurs lack the approach to work and will not be proficient enough to perform the task in the proper manner.

Always remember that laws regarding tinted windows vary from state to state. Before you go to a mechanic to get the job done, make sure that you are fully aware of the concerning laws of the state so as to avoid the violation of any laws. Police officers are not going to ignore this type of infraction, so you can expect to be pulled over and lectured. After that you have evaluated all necessary aspects and know the restrictions, do not hesitate to have your windows tinted. It will allow you to have a more comfortable ride and a safer automotive experience. Thus, before you make any decision, make sure to go through the above-mentioned guidelines and suggestions.

The first step towards an appropriate and quality tint job is to find the right tint shop, but it can be difficult to decide when there are so many choices. For example, there are over 20 different tint shops within a 20 mile radius of a large metropolitan city. So how does one make a sound decision between them? What sets a “Quality Window Tinting” apart from a “Tint King” or a “Tint Doctor”?

Here at TintCenter.com Window Tinting Guides, we recommend that you take your time and do a bit of research. Start by making a list of 4 to 5 tint shops that look promising, and then simply approach them for information.

You can get good tip-offs by asking co-workers, friends, or family members with tinted cars where they got the job done and if they’re happy with it.  You can also take a look through the Yellow Pages and take down the details of shops with the most professional-looking adverts, and – if you’d like to do it the easy way – you can use our handy quote service and get price quotes from local tint shops.

When you’ve narrowed your list down to a handful, here are a few good questions to ask each dealer:

  1. Have you been in the area long? What other areas do you serve?

Tint businesses that survive in a certain location for years without moving generally do so because they provide consistently great service at affordable prices. A tint shop that has been in business for around 5 years will be your best bet. Even if they are slightly more expensive than the newer tint shops you are scoping out, having a strong history tells you that they will likely still be around in a few years’ time in case you need to follow up on your warranty.

In many cases, a tint shop that is managed well and becomes a local success will branch out into other cities. Of course, you might find yourself dealing with a newly-trained branch, but in either case, the fact that they are successful enough to expand branches means that they truly care about the quality of their products and services.

  2. What are the different products that you use? Do you offer a warranty?

Tint shops that are worth their salt always deal in a variety of different window films, typically from multiple suppliers. These shops will offer a full range of film types including metallic, dyed, and hybrid film, and will have these in varying levels of darkness and more than one color. If the tint shop you are enquiring about only offers you a choice of one or two types of film, you should be very wary; it’s possible that they are simply trying to get rid of old or cheap stock (which may not even be suitable for your car in the first place).

When asking about their warranty plan, make sure you understand all that is included in it.  Your best option is a lifetime warranty for labor and materials, and we here at TintCenter wouldn’t recommend anything less. You should also confirm that the warranty covers problems like fading and color shift.

Please note that manufacturer’s warrantees will only be valid for legal window tint. Tint that doesn’t comply with local or state laws voids the warranty, so don’t forget to ask for the dealer’s warranty card with details such as the date, type of window film installed, and the total cost along with your receipt.

  3. Where can I see samples of your tinting? Can I come in and see it for myself?

Because a great salesperson may be able convince you of how great the business is over the phone, the best way to find out whether they are worth your money is to visit the tint shop in person. Even just 10 minutes inside should be enough to give you a good feel for the type of business you are dealing with.

Avoid rear window tinted in strips and make sure window tint on black frit border is secure.

Customer service is always a number one priority for good tint shops. When you engage with the employees, are they warm and friendly, or unpleasant? Do they seem genuinely interested in helping you, or are they disinterested and cold? These are all things you should pay attention to, because if they are not willing to give you the time of day before you are even a customer, it might be difficult to deal with them later if you ever have problems with your tint.
Next, ask them to show you a car that has already been tinted. Go ahead and inspect the rear window. How has the window film been cut, in strips or in one single piece? The most professional tinters use only one full sheet to cover the window’s surface. If the car you’re looking at has ‘frit’ edges (as shown in the image), take a closer look to ensure the film extends far enough to include the frit edges as well. When you look around the work area – is it clean and organized? Are the window films and tools carefully and expertly laid out? Outdoor work areas should always be avoided, as it is extremely important to install window tinting in a dust-free, indoor environment.

Now move around and inspect the tint on the side-windows. Make sure the film covers the inside of the window and sits tight along the edges. If you look closely at the window film in particular, do you notice bubbles of air, or see spots where the film isn’t sitting flush against the window? If so, this is a dead giveaway of a lazy tint job. On the other hand, if the film is a bit discolored or streaky, you shouldn’t worry too much as it does take a few weeks for window film to fully dry and show up as clear.

  4. Is there any reason you can’t just do your own window tint?

Are you the handyman at home? If you’d like to skip the shops, you can get DIY car tint kits from $60 – $100 which are cut specifically to fit the make and model of your car. And once you’ve done it yourself a few times, you’ll have enough experience to help out your family and friends with their own tint jobs. Even if you mess up, most reputable tint kit shops have extra film programs that allow you to purchase single pieces of film rather than an entire kit.

Whether you want to go it alone or use our Free Online Price Quote service, keep in mind the color, type and darkness of the film you would like. Don’t accept ‘the next best thing’ if the dealer doesn’t stock what you want – instead, just move on, as you will most certainly find a tint shop elsewhere that offers your desired tint. After getting your hands on several quotes and having researched all the shops on your shortlist, you should now feel free to make your final choice between them. If you are still not sure about the prices, reviewing the cost of car tint article will give you some hints about what you’re looking at.

And last but not least, once you know which tint shop you are going with, be sure to make an appointment with them beforehand. Some tint shops offer a “drop-in any time” service, but if you want the best possible job done you’ll want to give them some time to prepare. Tinting takes a few hours to complete even by a prepared professional, so you may want to arrange a lift with someone when you take your car in. Good luck and enjoy your new tint!

Materials:

  • Warm sunny day
  • Tarp
  • Large plastic garbage bag
  • Undiluted Ammonia
  • Windex (a glass cleaner)
  • Paper towels
  • Fine steel wool
  • Razor blades

Tips:
The difficult thing about removing tint is that most film is constructed of two layers of tinted polyester. When you try to peel the film off the glass, the top layer will usually pull right off leaving the second layer behind. This second layer will not peel off, it will just flake and tear like a price tag.
Step 1:
To over come separation between layers you must soften the adhesive so that both layers peel at the same time. This is very important, if you peel the just the top layer, you may as well just use razor blades as there is no way to peel the second layer off without picking at it for a few hours. You MUST try to peel both layers at once.

NOTE:
You are more than likely to damage one or more of your defroster lines, when this happens, the cut line will not
work anymore. Some cars have radio antennas mounted alongside the defrosters made of the same material. If you damage these, your radio antenna will not work! Be careful! Taking it to a tint shop to be done greatly increases the odds of saving the lines, but even a tint shop can not promise to save your lines, sometimes the film is just to far gone.

Step 2:
First, clear the window of any obstructions, like the brake light, speaker covers etc.
Step 3: Next cut open the garbage bag so that it will be big enough to cover the entire window. Spray some water on the outside of the back window and the lay plastic bag over the glass. Cut away excess plastic so that it is now roughly the same shape as the glass.
Step 4:
Next, lay a tarp over rear deck and seat, spray ammonia liberally on the inside of the back window. (Ammonia is very strong, I suggest you hold your breath during this step) and cover ammonia soaked tint with the plastic bag so that it won't evaporate.
Step 5:
Park the car with rear window facing the sun for about an hour. The film should now be ready to peel.
Step 6:
When you are ready to start peeling, leave the plastic in place so the ammonia wont dry. Get the peeling started with a razor blade in a corner where there are no defroster lines. Try to peel film off in one piece. If the ammonia dries as you peel, the glue will get hard again, so spray a bit of ammonia on the area as you peel.
Step 7:
Once the film is peeled you will need to scrub the adhesive off with ammonia and fine 0000 steel wool. Mop up scrubbed areas with paper towels before they dry. Finish up with window cleaner and paper towels.
Removing tint from side windows
Soaking is not nessesary here. You may want to use a simple razorblade holder. Cut a notch onto the upper area of the film so that you have a piece to pull. Try to peel the film, it will probably come off in two or three pieces. Spray the remaining adhesive with soapy water, and scrape the adhesive off with a razor blade, avoiding the edges of the glass until last to keep the blade sharp. You may need to use a few blades as they dull quickly. Finish up with window cleaner and paper towels.
